Delegates want Anwar to be next PM

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) delegates at its annual convention want the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the next prime minister should the Opposition win the 14th general election.

Some 1,000 delegates, including the party’s top leadership, were seen holding “Anwar PM ke-7 (Anwar 7th PM) placards after president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail delivered her speech.

Among those present at the assembly were Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Also present were Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

When asked whether the coalition would support Anwar as the next prime minister, Mukhriz said the decision to select the shadow cabinet must be agreed by all four PH component parties.

“Why do you ask me? You should ask Harapan.

“I am the deputy of Parti Pribumi Bersatu and there are four parties in Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

The former Kedah mentri besar said it has not been discussed at the top PH level.

“I agree that we should announce the prime minister candidate before the upcoming election.

“But let us (Pakatan Harapan) discuss this first and come (to) a decision,” he said.
