Global centre to fight terror launched
RIYADH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, US President Donald Trump and more than 50 Muslim leaders attended the inauguration of the Global Centre for Combating Extremist Ideology, here yesterday.
Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Trump inaugurated the centre, which is aimed at addressing extremist ideology in cyberspace, at Mu’tamarat Nasiriyah.
The centre also aims at countering and preventing the spread of extremist ideology, by promoting moderation, compassion and supporting the dissemination of positive agenda.
Earlier, the leaders attended the Arab-Islamic-US Summit at the King Abdul Aziz International Convention Centre.
On the sidelines of the summit, Najib had a meeting with his counterpart from Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, during which they discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.
Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also minister with Special Functions, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Najib concluded the second of his three-day working visit to the country by attending the TWEEPS 2017 Forum on Sunday.
The event focused on how people could utilise social media networks for social good and to counter extremism and terrorism. – Bernama
