Cops bust mini meth lab, seize firearms
KUALA LUMPUR: City police busted a two-month-old meth lab that was operating in an apartment in Cheras on Friday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh said based on a public tipoff, police raided the apartment at about 7pm and also recovered firearms.
“During the raid, we arrested a 49-year-old local whom we believe was a member of the syndicate operating the mini lab.
“Four semi-automatic pistols and a revolver together with 188 (.9mm) and 80 (.45mm) bullets, 1.3kg of meth oil and chemicals were seized from the apartment,” he told reporters at the KL police headquarters here yesterday.
Preliminary investigations also revealed the syndicate was in the midst of producing meth meant for local consumption and distribution.
“We will send the pistols for ballistic tests to check whether the syndicate or the firearms were used for any shooting in the country,” he added.
The seized drugs were estimated to be worth RM90,000, said Amar.
“Besides drugs and firearms, police found cash amounting to RM65,000 in the raid. There were a lot of RM1 and RM10 notes,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded until Thursday under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
