YPC’s ‘Power Talk’ series

-

YPC International College recently invited multi-industry player Christian Van Hemelryck to deliver a talk to its degree programme students on “IT Outsourcing”. This was part of YPC’s continuous effort to develop itself into a quality education hub, instead of just another “degree mill”, besides sharing in-depth insights with its students.

Having 20 years of experience on the subject, Hemelryck spoke to the crowd of over 300 students, informing of a dire need for companies to outsource its IT management obligations.

In addition to lowering operational and labour costs, IT outsourcing will allow companies to focus on its core business, helping itself mitigate risks in areas of investment benefits and operational management. All this will translate into economies of scale, as well as increase job and business opportunities, he said.

Hemelryck didn’t deny the perception most have that dependency on an external service provider is seen as a risk for organisations. Many think it portrays a company with weak management, business and endemic uncertainty, inexperienced staff, outdated technological skills and such.

However, he stressed that if industry players are armed and updated with the latest industry knowledge and know-how, their companies can fast-track the endto-end process standardisation. Then again, he also said that to reduce initial risks in outsourcing, a company must be capable of managing the IT service first and be informed of the services available in the market today.

At the end of his speech, Hemelryck engaged the student audience in a lively and informative question and answer session before he was presented with a painting, created by the YPC students themselves. Indeed, the young audience were at the receiving end, benefiting from the valuable insights and information. They also had the opportunity to interact with the speaker and relate their classroom education to real life situations.
