12 receive King’s Scholarships for postgrad studies
KUALA LUMPUR: Yang diPertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V yesterday presented the Yang diPertuan Agong Scholarship (BYDPA) 2017 to 12 tertiary students for postgraduate studies both locally as well as overseas.
The recipients were selected by the BYDPA Committee and Public Service Department (PSD).
Six of the recipients are going for PhD courses. They are James Tan You Sian, a student of Material Engineering at the University of Oxford, UK; Christina Parvinder Kaur, a Medical Science student at the University of Malaya (UM); Fakhitah Ridzuan, a student of Information Systems Management at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM); Mohd Fadhli Abd Rashid (Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia); Iffa Farahin Jeepery (Biochemical, USM) and Leong Xin Yun (Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge, UK).
The remaining six recipients, who are pursuing masters degrees, are Daniel Liew Yu Chuan (Civil Engineering, UTM); Heng Wei Khang (Marine Biology Science, UM); Jaezah Adlina Zainal Azman (Pharmacology and Translational Medical Science, University of Oxford, UK); Kaif Hilman Muhammad Borhan Tan (Mathematics, University Of Cambridge, UK); Nur Nadia Che Aziz (Medical Science, USM) and Vinnothini Rasalingam (Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College, London).
James said he wants to use the scholarship to carry out as many studies as possible abroad particularly in upgrading the country’s broadband services.
“This is a new field, I will use the knowledge gained to improve the various services, especially communication services, in this country,” said James of his three-year course.
Another student, Jaezah said the scholarship awarded will be utilised in the best manner possible to ease the cost of study abroad.
Realising that the scholarship is the contribution of the society, she said she will come back to serve the government on completing her studies.
Jazeah plans to research on improving treatment for stroke victims in the country. – Bernama
