Police run security drills to prepare for SEA Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday ran the first of five crisis management drills at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, called “Ops Ex-Rimau”, to prepare for the SEA Games in August.
City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said similar drills will be held at the stadium soon, followed by three more at the KLCC mosque, National Sailing Centre in Langkawi and International Endurance Park in Terengganu.
“The exercises would cover five situations, including evacuation of VIPs, bomb threats, partial building collapse, explosives that may contain hazardous materials and armed attacks,” he said after witnessing the exercise yesterday.
Amar said he was satisfied with the drill, adding that police were prepared to face any eventuality.
Among the objectives of the exercise was to test the ability of the crisis response team, effectiveness in the execution of plans and reaction time.
Amar said scanners will also be installed at all venue entrances.
Yesterday’s drill was executed by 350 personnel from the bomb disposal unit, special response team, Vat 69 commandos, air operations team, General Operations Force, K9 unit and the Criminal Investigations Department.
“Four more such exercises will be held in the coming months leading up to the games. The next drills will also include the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force.” he said.
