SERDANG: A Uber driver sought for allegedly robbing a female passenger in Puchong on Sunday was arrested by police in Muar on Wednesday.

After days of tracking down the suspect, a police team from Serdang led by Insp Mohd Hanif Shukor caught the 22-year-old suspect at the Pagoh rest and recreation (R&R) area on the north-bound side of the North-South Expressway at 11pm.

Serdang deputy police chief Supt Lee Wai Leong said yesterday that the suspect, who is from Kulim, has two criminal records.

He said police also seized a black Proton Saga from the man, who is in custody under a seven-day remand order.

Lee said the search for the suspect’s accomplice, who was present during the robbery, is ongoing.

On Sunday, a 26-year-old woman engaged the ride-hailing service to return home to Bandar Puchong Jaya from a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur at about 9.30pm.

Although the Uber driver showed up with another male passenger in the front seat, the unsuspecting woman boarded the car.

However, on arriving at the One Puchong Business Centre, the male passenger whipped out a knife and ordered the cosmetics salesgirl to hand over her valuables.

The victim, who is believed to be pregnant, was driven around for several kilometres before the men dropped her off not far from Bandar Puchong Jaya.

The terrified victim was aided by passersby before a police report was lodged.
