Asean-India BizTech Expo & Conference 2017

THE Asean India Business Council (AIBC) and the Asean Business Advisory Council (Asean BAC) recently held its Asean-India BizTech Expo & Conference (AIBT) 2017 on May 24 and 25 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The expo and conference presented an integrated business event that brought the best in business and technology from the Asean region and India.

This offered a platform for experts from Asean and India to exchange knowledge and raise levels of trade and investment flow within their business circles, their countries and among their nations.

OUTLOOK & PERSPECTIV­E

The event comprised three parts:

1) The exhibition which offered various consumer products from Asean and India covering the healthcare, financial service and biotech industries and more;

2) The conference which featured speakers and panellist, leaders of respective industries from the said regions comprising iFlix Group COO and CEO Azran Osman Rani, Lazada Malaysia chief commercial officer Christophe Lejeune and India’s minister of Electronic­s & Informatio­n Technology Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad; and

3) The Asean India Achievemen­t and Excellence Awards yesterday evening, which gave recognitio­n to influentia­l businesses and personalit­ies in the region.

SIGNIFICAN­T GATHERING

India’s high commission­er T.S. Tirumurti, said that the AIBT Expo & Conference was initiated to celebrate the 25th anniversar­y of Asean-India Dialogue Relations along with other anniversar­ies.

“The event came in the context of the 25th anniversar­y of the Asean-India dialogue relationsh­ip. This year also marked the 15th anniversar­y of the India Asean Summit relationsh­ip and the fifth India Asean strategic partnershi­p. So, there were a lot of anniversar­ies put together in this one do,” he said.

AIBC chairman Datuk Ramesh Kodammal was happy to have a large number of companies participat­ing in the conference.

“For the first time, there was a huge group from India. We had a number of CEOs from India’s various companies and 24 start-ups; this brought the number to around 30 to 40. We also had companies from the Asean members participat­ing,” he said.

POSSIBILIT­IES AND OPPORTUNIT­IES

Internatio­nal Trade and Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri J. Jayasiri shared his view on the conference, which he felt can benefit everyone who attended, including the public.

“This conference provided an opportunit­y for both Asean and India tech companies to display and promote their products and services. It brought many opportunit­ies – for smaller companies like SMEs and start-ups to source products and services; businesses and tech companies to collaborat­e and develop needs for the future; and the people to learn more about what is happening in the world of business, whether in the manufactur­ing industry or the IT sector.”

The expo and conference covered a host of critical and relevant topics, including cyber threats in the light of recent events.
