Sultan angered by MP
> Selangor ruler expresses disappointment over Subang rep’s political talk in mosque
KLANG: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed anger and disappointed with Subang MP R. Sivarasa, who is alleged to have brought disrepute to the An Nur Mosque in Kampung Melayu Subang when he delivered a political talk inside the mosque on May 24.
Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Datuk Haris Kasim said he was informed by the Sultan about the matter, Bernama reported.
“Prior to this, the Sultan had expressed anger and disappointment through his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.
“While speaking to me at a breaking of fast event, His Highness expressed anger (at Sivarasa’s action) again,” he told reporters yesterday after attending a breaking of fast event and the launch of Kampung Sementa Mosque, which was graced by the Sultan.
Haris said JAIS had called the An Nur Mosque administrator on Friday to explain the incident and to submit a report to the Sultan the following Monday.
He said after studying the report, the Sultan described the action of the mosque administrator and the organiser of the talk as disrespectful of his decree against using mosques for any political activities.
“His Highness also ordered JAIS to take immediate action against the mosque administrator and the organiser.
“We have asked the administrator to submit (a letter of explanation) this week and to explain why he allowed Sivarasa to deliver a talk in the mosque. We will also look at suitable action that can be taken against the administrator, whether a warning, suspension of duties or sacking.”
Haris added that he was made to understand that the administrator was unaware of Sivarasa’s presence at the presentation ceremony of donations at the mosque and that there was no talk scheduled to be given during the event.
Sivarasa reportedly attended the event on behalf of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and later gave a political talk.
Several pictures of him during the talk had also gone viral on social media.
