M’sia condemns London attacks
> I’m shocked and disgusted by the incident, says Najib
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia joined the world in condemning the terror attacks in central London with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak saying he was devastated by the incident, which has claimed seven lives.
“Devastating terror attacks in London. I am shocked and disgusted. Malaysia condemns the heinous acts and we stand with the people of Britain,” Najib said in his official Twitter account.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also deplored the “heinous attack”.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims and sympathy to the British people. We are confident the British authorities will solve and bring those who are responsible to justice,” he said on a Facebook post yesterday.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein tweeted: “Our prayers are with everyone in London.”
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Malaysians were involved in the attack on London Bridge.
In a statement, it said the Malaysian High Commission in the city was in close contact with the local authorities and providing updates to the Malaysian community there.
It added the ministry had been closely monitoring the Saturday incident which occurred just weeks after the Manchester bombing that killed 22 people.
“So far there have been no reports of Malaysians involved in the incident.
“Malaysians residing around the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities,” the statement said.
The ministry reminded Malaysians to contact the high commission for any emergency or further information.
The Foreign Ministry also conveyed its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of the incident.
This is the second attack in London this year after the first one outside the British parliament in March.
Yesterday, it was reported that pedestrians were run down by a van and people in a nearby area of bars and restaurants were stabbed with knives. Armed officers confronted three male suspects who were shot dead in Borough Market.
Authorities had described it as a terrorist attack.
