Tips from Ikea for a festive-ready home atmosphere

-

WITH Hari Raya just around the corner, here are some tips and tricks on how home can exude a more festive feel.

1) Be bold with colours Play up the Hari Raya green hue by using shades that marry well. From turquoise to emerald, even navy blue – a little can go a long way. However, less is more when experimenting with colours, so stick to one primary hue as the dominant shade and complement it with small doses of accent colours.

2) Play with textures and

patterns Amp up the living room as this is where most of the festivities will take place. Mix textures like faux finishes and mixed patterns as impact from texture is most noticeable when paired against an opposite. As an example, mix fabrics used for decorative pillows to create a cosy atmosphere as in Ikea’s Hemmafest offerings. Hints of geometric and organic prints across furnishing and servingware provide eye candy and add to the festive flair.

3) Make space for all Just because you live in a studio unit does not mean you can’t entertain. Get creative and use available space in unique ways by turning a coffee table into a dining area by covering it with a table cloth.

Pillows on the floor make comfy seats and encourage a more relaxed feel. Small spaces can also be made to feel big with the correct use of colour, light and smart storage, all easily found at Ikea.

4) A little greenery Add to the festive hue by inviting some greenery into the living and dining areas. Plants are also often associated with positive elements and known to promote optimism and calmness. From freshly cut flowers to bouquets, hanging plants or wall-mounted greens - these hardly take up floor room and pleasantly bring in a little of the outdoors indoors.

5) Don’t forget the kids At festive times, kids are often forgotten as the adults engage in conversation. This festive time, make children feel welcomed by lining tables with Mala drawing paper and hand them Mala Fekt-tip pens so they can get creative. This helps heaps, especially with guests who have restless children.

Kid’s cutlery from Ikea will also work well in this space that they can enjoy and leave the adults to the “boring stuff”.

Visit Ikea to check what else is in store to make home interiors a little more festive and inviting.
