Berjaya joins fight against corruption
KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corporation Berhad has joined the fight to eradicate corruption by joining hands with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) through the “Sahabat SPRM” (Friends of MACC) campaign.
The Sahabat SPRM will see messages bearing the commission’s careline telephone number being displayed at more than 2,000 7-Eleven outlets nationwide, a measure to encourage the public to report any corruption-related wrongdoings.
The careline number is 1-800-886000 and it will be displayed prominently at the convenience stores.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said such an initiative would make it easier for the public to help the commission fight corruption and abuse of power.
“Through this campaign, we want the public to be our friends. They have to be our eyes and ears for the MACC in the fight against corruption,” he said.
“In discharging our responsibility, we know that we will not be able to do it alone. We need the cooperation of all parties,” he said in his speech at the campaign’s officiating ceremony at Berjaya Times Square on Saturday.
Also present was Berjaya Corporation Berhad executive director Datuk Zurainah Musa.
In his speech, Dzulkifli lauded the efforts undertaken by Berjaya in the nationwide battle against corruption by being the first corporate body to cooperate with MACC.
He hoped more corporate companies would emulate Berjaya and join MACC’s fight against corruption.
“The involvement of corporate companies will not only present themselves with a good image, but will also give a hand in curbing corruption and abuse of power,” he said.
“I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to Berjaya and 7-Eleven for the campaign. I believe such an effort will be able to bring major changes and cleanse our country from the practice of corruption and abuse of power,” he added.
Dzulkifli pointed out that there were those who were afraid to report to MACC due to fear for their own safety.
“We want to develop a community that is brave and have the courage to say no to corruption,” he added.
