Sulaiman in, Isa out of Felda Global Ventures
PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Mahbob has been appointed the new acting chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) to replace Tan Sri Isa Samad with immediate effect, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
In confirming earlier reports on the matter, Najib also announced Isa’s appointment as acting chairman of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) with immediate effect.
“I spoke to Isa this morning during a meeting with Datuk Seri Idris Jala and discussed the future of FGV.
“Following talks, he agreed to step down willingly from his post,” he said after officiating at a ceremony to present keys for the Selasih 1Malaysia Civil Servants’ Housing Project (PPA1M) at Presint 17 yesterday.
Najib said the appointments were temporary, until a final decision is made.
“The decision is a reflection of the government’s intent to ensure that FGV remains on firm ground in terms of management.
“It is also in line with the principles of corporate governance ,” he added.
Isa takes over the SPAD post from Tan Sri Syed Hamid Syed Jaafar Albar, who retired on June 3.
Prior to his appointment, Sulaiman, 67, was a non-executive director with FGV.
On PPA1M, Najib said the government has raised its target for the housing units from 100,000 to 200,000, and revised its target for completion of all units nationwide by 2020.
“It is a dream of every individual, especially those who are married, to have a home that suits their taste.
“I consider this project among the best provided by the government. So, it’s lucky that they (civil servants) are getting to live at the Selasih PPA1M,” he said.
PPA1M provides public housing with a minimum floor area of between 1,000sq ft and 1,500sq ft at a price of between RM150,000 and RM300,000.
Depending on the size of each unit, the government also provides a subsidy of between RM25,000 and RM38,000 per unit.
The project in Presint 17 consists of 1,000 apartment units in seven blocks.
