Malaysian tunnels out of Bali prison
BALI: A Malaysian convict was among four prisoners who tunnelled their way out of the Kerobokan prison here yesterday.
He was identified as Tee Kok King ( pix), 48, who was nabbed in January last year for smuggling syabu and sentenced to seven years’ jail.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, when contacted by theSun, said although no details of the jailbreak were received by police from their Indonesian counterparts, entry points here will be put on alert just in case Tee attempts to return to Malaysia.
The others who fled with him were Bulgarian Dimitar Nikolov Iliev, who was sentenced to seven years’ prison for money laundering in 2016, Indian national Sayed Mohammed Said, who was in jail for a drugs offence, and Australian Shaun Edward Davidson.
Davidson, 33, who was serving a one-year jail term for immigration offences, fled the prison although he was due to be released in under three months, police said.
“It seems that they have escaped through a 50cm x 75cm hole at the prison’s outer wall,” Bali police spokesman Hengky Widjaja told AFP.
The daring jailbreak is believed to have happened when the Muslim guards were performing morning prayers.
Increased checks at airports, ports and bus terminals are being launched to apprehend the prisoners.
Last week, dozens of inmates swam out of a facility on an island during a flood.
