Free bus rides for students’ Raya trip

-

ALOR STAR: A state goverrnment and an association are organising free bus rides for undergraduates to return to their homes for Hari Raya from Kuala Lumpur.

The Kedah government has arranged for 10 buses to transport university students from the state travelling from Kuala Lumpur to their Kedah hometowns, while the Terengganu Graduates Association (Permata) is providing 320 free seats on eight buses for undergraduates nationwide to return home for the festival.

Kedah Education, Transport and NGOs Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain said the buses, each able to carry 40 students, will pick up the students at various locations in Kuala Lumpur beginning tomorrow.

Students in the southern states should make their own arrangements to get to Kuala Lumpur to board the buses, he said in a statement yesterday.

“This free bus service is being provided for the second consecutive year following good response from students,” he said.

Permata project director Nizarmuhsin Mohamad said the free bus service is being offered based on a first come, first served basis where those keen on the service are required to register with the Permata Secretariat which had been set up in every zone in the country.

He said the buses will leave for Terengganu on Friday, with those from the north and south leaving at 5pm.

The bus from Negri Sembilan will leave at 5.30pm and 8pm from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, he added.

Nizarmuhsin said the buses were scheduled to arrive at the Terengganu Foundation building in Kuala Terengganu at about 4.30am on Saturday. – Bernama
