Teen gets 3D prosthetic hand for Raya

-

PETALING JAYA: This year’s Aidilfitri has brought joy to Farahdina Che Fauzan, 16, after she received a 3D electronic prosthetic hand that was customised for her.

Farahdina, whose left arm was amputated two years ago due to bone cancer, said she is very touched and grateful to those who have helped her.

“Although the prosthetic hand allows me to only control the fingers, I am thankful and happy as it is comfortable and it only weighs around 600g,” she said.

The only child of Hanismulizuana Mustaffa, 38 and Che Fauzan Che Ahmad, 46, is in the trial stage of using the prosthetic hand which is activated via Bluetooth through a smart phone.

The 3D electronic prosthetic hand designer Sujana Mohd Rejab, 48, said it was very challenging for her to build this prototype as it is different from her previous creations.

“In Farahdina’s case, I don’t have a specific reference to build the shoulder area which is connected to her body, I only got some advice on hand movements from Hospital Universiti Kubang Kerian.

“Hopefully, after this, there will be more research and development so the prosthetic hand can function thoroughly, including shoulder and elbow movement,” she said.
