EX-EMBASSY GIFTED TO TRIBES
OTTAWA: Canadian Premier Justin Trudeau on Wednesday gifted a former US embassy directly across the street from parliament to Canada’s more than 600 tribes, in a symbolic rapprochement with indigenous peoples. He also ordered a nearby building housing his offices be stripped of its Langevin Block name which is associated with the “cultural genocide” of aboriginals. The embassy handover on a national day celebrating its aboriginal population “symbolises a turning point in Canada’s relationship with indigenous peoples”, a statement said. – AFP
