Transformers: The Last Knight

-

THIS needs to be the last of the Michael Bay Transformers movies because this time it is bad, really bad.

In Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth instalment of the live-action Transformers movie franchise, Earth is threatened by Cybertron again; an all-powerful scion of the end of the world is introduced again; a prophecy is played out agai;, and an alien McGuffin is found on Earth. Again.

Simply put, if you have seen any of the previous movies, you have already seen this one. Except this one now has Sir Anthony Hopkins in it.

We all know the basic story: there are two groups of shapeshifting alien robots from the planet Cybertron – the Autobots, and the Decepticons. The first are the good guys, and

SET AGAINST the backdrop of the Joseon era, the light-hearted romance series, My Sassy Girl, follows the relationship between genius scholar Gyeon Wu (played by Joo Won), and the beautiful tomboy princess Hye Myeong (Oh Yeon Seo).

As Gyeon Wu is an arrogant man full of himself, and the princess is an independent woman who is not afraid to speak out against any injustice she sees, expect sparks to fly between the two.

The series is a historical reimagining of the popular 2001 film of the same name, which starred Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun.

This drama, which currently airs on ONE HD (Astro channel 393) on Monday and Tuesday at 9pm, marks the first collaboration between the two leads.

For Oh, 29, who recently won the 2016 SBS Drama Actress Excellence Award for her role in the latter are the bad guys.

After the destruction of their planet, they continue their squabbles on Earth. It is a simple premise of good versus evil.

Here, the Autobots are still a bunch of man-children wrapped in racial stereotypes who must, for the fifth time, prove themselves worthy of an alliance with the humans because they have hurt more people in trying to save the world than the bad guys.

On the other side, the Decepticons still want to destroy the world without actually killing any humans.

In the middle are the humans, who despite all that they have been through with the Autobots, hunt them down like criminals while making deals with the Decepticons.

At its core, Transformers: The Last Knight is a two-and-a-half-hour toy commercial, just like its old TV series.

But, unlike that Saturday morning cartoon series which actually sold good toys, this film lacks cohesion and common sense, and is blatantly designed for the non-Englishspeaking foreign market.

The only thing enjoyable about the movie is the visuals. That is when it is not a flurry of fast cuts and somersaulting metal.

If you have to watch Transformers: The Last Knight, stay for the mid-credit scene, and then stare in horror as the movie sets up its sequel.
