IPOH: Police have arrested a fourth suspected gang member from Menglembu believed to be involved in an altercation between two groups of football supporters that led to gunshots being fired on Sunday.

Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the suspect was arrested here yesterday. Police are looking for six more suspects. “The suspects are aged between 21 and 35. In the incident, the gunman drew a revolver and fired six times at three people, hitting them in the arms and abdomen,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Hasnan did not say whether the gunman was arrested during the raid.

The football match, which kicked off at 4pm at Padang Ipoh, saw Dream Team thump Menglembu FC 4-0. A fan was said to have shouted profanities at the rival team during the match.

It is learnt that shortly after the match ended, the father of one of the victims received a phone call from a man who wanted his son to meet him outside a convenience store in Menglembu at about 7.30pm.

The man’s son went with two of his friends, who apparently did not know what the “meeting” was about.

In the “meeting”, the gunman opened fire at the three men identified as S. Sutager, 29; S. Adwinray, 24, and P. Khechan Kumar, 21.

Police detained three suspects on Sunday, aged between 21 and 28, and seized four machetes and a car.

A police source told theSun the suspects as well as the victims were believed to involved in underworld gang activities.

The source said the gunman is from “Gang 21” based in Batu Gajah, while the victims were believed to be linked to “08 Menglembu” gang.

Police have since formed a task force to track down members of both gangs.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960.

Sutager is recovering in the normal ward while Adwinray and Khechan Kumar are still in the intensive care unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
