SHAH ALAM: A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly planting a homemade explosive device on a nurse’s car on Sunday.

Selangor police CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the suspect, who was nabbed in Taman Petaling Indah, Klang at 3.30am, is the ex-boyfriend of the 27-year-old nurse.

He said on searching the man’s house, investigators found several electronic devices and firecrackers that are suspected to have been used in making the explosive device.

Fadzil said the motive behind the case is believed to be linked to issues related to money.

He said the suspect was a former student of a private college and had studied electronics in 2006 and had also worked as a salesman in an electrical appliances store.

Fadzil said the suspect has two criminal records for intimidation and a drugrelated case.

“He admitted he is the nurse’s ex-lover and they are currently embroiled in a spat over money matters.

“However, police will continue with investigations to determine the real motive behind the case. The man has been remanded for four days to assist in our investigations,” he said.

On Saturday at 10.30pm, the nurse was driving in Kapar when she heard beeping sounds coming from her car.

She headed towards her uncle’s house in Taman Damai and on searching for the source of the sound, she was shocked to find the device attached to the bumper of her car.

A police bomb disposal unit that was despatched to the scene destroyed the homemade bomb four hours later after securing the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
