Perak MCCM chief claims trial

> Charged with deceiving businessma­n of RM150,000 over govt building project

IPOH: Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (MCCM) Perak branch president Datuk Sabri Ahmad Tah pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here yesterday to a charge of cheating an individual of RM150,000 related to a developmen­t project and supply of sand three years ago.

Sabri, 47, was charged with deceiving businessma­n Datuk Alan Chuah Chin Lai and dishonestl­y inducing delivery of land project covering 108ha in Kampar, and a project to supply sand for government buildings under NAZA TTDI to the Perak MCCM and Semarak Sinergi Sdn Bhd.

He was alleged to have dishonestl­y prompted the businessma­n to hand him RM150,000 in three cheques which were cashed by one Baharudin Ahmad.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Teluk Intan Maybank branch, Medan Mahkota, Jalan Ah Cheong in Teluk Intan, between 10am and 2pm on July 25, 2014.

Sabri was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code and faces imprisonme­nt of up to 10 years, a fine and whipping.

Judge S. Indera Nehru set bail at RM50,000 in two sureties and ordered the accused to report to the nearest Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) office once a month. The case will be re-mentioned on Aug 8.

The accused was represente­d by Ranjit Singh while Nurul Wahidah Jalaluddin from MACC prosecuted.

In the same court, contractor Mohammad Trevor Mohammad Darby was charged with submitting a false local order document and invoice related to the completion of upgrading of a visual system project for Perak Museum in Taiping costing RM246,500.

He alleged to have deceived the Perak Museum curator Nor Hanisah Ahmad into believing that work on upgrading the exhibition audio visual system had been completed and had followed the requiremen­ts.

However, the work was unsatisfac­tory and did not adhere to the requiremen­ts.

The accused, who is the owner of Syarikat Ultra Integrated, allegedly committed the offence at the museum on Dec 24, 2013.

He was charged under Section 14 of the MACC Act 18 and faces a jail sentence not exceeding 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the value of the bribe amount or which is higher.

Bail was fixed at RM12,000 in one surety. The court set July 22 for re-mention. admitted supporting IS through the “Black Crow” telegram group, by using the name “Zam Rosden Di” at No. 73, Jalan USJ 6/3B Subang, at about 12.33am on March 30, 2016. In the second charge, he admitted possessing 34 pictures and two videos on his handphone at a car park at LG level, of a supermarke­t in Persiaran Subang Permai, Subang Jaya at about 1.30pm on July 15, 2016.
