Eight plead guilty to rioting charge
IPOH: Eight men pleaded guilty to a charge of rioting in Bandar Baru Menglembu at the magistrate’s court here yesterday.
All were charged under Section 148 of the Penal Code with rioting at Lorong Kledang Timur 10, Bandar Baru Menglembu at 6.30pm on July 2.
They were jointly charged with using weapons which can cause death or injuries to S. Adwinray, 24, P. Kechan Kumar, 21, and S. Sutager, 29.
The accused M. Magiesvaran, 23, S. Loggarajan, 27, R. Satish Kumar, 27, M. Ilageswaran, 28, A. Joseph Raj, 29, S. Krishnan, 30, K. Selva Ganapathy, 31 and P. Velmurugan, 34, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to them.
Magistrate Siti Hafiza Jaafar presided over the case.
She fined Loggarajan RM1,000 and sentenced him to 14 days’ jail while Joseph Raj, Selva Ganapathy, Velmurugan and Magiesvaran were sentenced to seven days’ jail.
Three others Satish Kumar, Ilageswaran and Krishnan were fined RM1,000 each.
The court ordered a 12-month jail term if they fail to pay the fine.
Nurul Qistini Kamarul Abraf prosecuted while all the accused were represented by Farihah Arshad.
It was earlier reported two groups were believed to have been involved in a shouting match at Ipoh Padang at 6pm on that day.
