PM pleased with SBK line
> Najib tries train service with family, awed by underground stations
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has given the thumbs-up to the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) service.
He said he and his family had the opportunity yesterday to tour and try the service, that will be fully operational on Monday, reported Bernama.
“I am satisfied with the world-class MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line that was developed and created by thousands of our own people since 2010.
“To all those involved, be proud of your achievement. Recall the sacrifices ... energy and time that should have been spent with family and friends. This is the product of your sweat and tears. I am proud of all of you,” Najib said in a post on his official blog, najibrazak.com yesterday.
He said the smooth MRT service refuted allegations by some residents, especially in urban areas, that the MRT project would adversely affect their locality.
“Clearly, it is not true. Many are now getting a more holistic connectivity benefit.”
Najib said he was awed by the uniqueness of the MRT underground stations, and also shared his experience using the feeder bus service to ferry passengers to nearby areas at a fare of only RM1.
Meanwhile, MRT line project director Marcus Karakashian said the opening of the SBK line on Monday is set to further boost urban rail network coverage. reports ADRIAN PHUNG.
All seven interchange stations of the line would be operational to provide commuters easier access to other rail services to the city centre, he said at a pre-launch media briefing yesterday.
Among the interchange stations are Pasar Seni (interchange with Kelana Jaya line), Merdeka (interchange with Ampang line), Muzium Negara (a linked pedestrian walkway for commuters to KL Sentral station) and Kajang (sharing a common concourse with Kajang KTM station).
Najib is scheduled to launch the second phase of the SBK line on Monday at the Tun Razak Exchange station prior to taking an MRT train to the Stadium Kajang station.
