‘Place trust in Barisan’

> Voters should choose party with clearest leadership structure, says Najib

- BY G. SURACH

KUALA LUMPUR: The people should place their trust on the party that has the clearest leadership structure when the 14th general election comes around, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak yesterday.

“A clear leadership, a clear hierarchy, a clear authority, a clear direction and a clear capability. In times of uncertainty, these are the factors that need to be taken into account in determining who comes into power and is able to steer the country forward,” he told reporters during the Umno Hari Raya open house in Putra World Trade Centre.

With the proven record of Umno and Barisan Nasional, Najib questioned the need for the people to consider other parties, and put their future at risk.

“Umno and Barisan Nasional are strong and have a good track record despite instances where weaknesses have been pointed out. But in general, the world has recognised us in lifting the country to levels its citizens can be proud of,” he said.

Najib added that with Umno’s track record for the past 60 years, the people can tell between “glass and a diamond”.

His response comes after Pakatan Harapan, which comprise Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP, Parti Amanah Negara and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), announced its new leadership structure on Friday, with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its de facto leader, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as chairman and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as president.

At the open house event, Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor visited various stalls set up by Umno state divisions, Youth, Wanita and Putera wings.

Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein,Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.
