‘ Road bully’ tells his side of story

> ’Viral videos on road rage incidents do not show what actually happened’

KUALA LUMPUR: The man who was allegedly involved in two road rage incidents, videos of which went viral on social media, has come forward to give his side of the story.

Simren Singh, 27, a businessman said the outcry against him on social media was unfair to him.

“One has to avoid making decisions based on a YouTube video. Yes it is not right to make rude hand gestures. But did the video viewers know what actually happened? Some social media users are even hurling profanities and threatening me.

“In the incident at about 1.30pm on July 13 in the Klang Valley, I was driving along Jalan Genting Klang in Setapak and was trying to enter the right lane when a vehicle driven by a man hit my car.

“It was an accident, so we parked our vehicles at the side of the road to discuss the matter. But the man looked angry and used racist slurs on me.”

Simren said a passer-by tried to calm the situation and advised him to get into the car, saying that it was not safe as a group of youths were surrounding them.

“I even told the man to settle the incident with me. I noticed that the man’s vehicle road tax had expired. Passers-by started to intervene and I decided to leave the scene. The man was taking pictures of my car, and suddenly started to hit me and kick my vehicle.”

Simren later made a police report.

“I am not sure about the man but I was told by the investigating officer that he has yet to lodge a traffic report about the accident.”

On another incident that took place earlier this year along Jalan Ampang, Simren said the person who uploaded the video of the incident had edited it and failed to show the part where she rearended his vehicle.

“She knocked into me from the back. I was waiting for her to stop but she tried to escape and that prompted me to chase her and block her from escaping. Eventually, she stopped and I got out to take a picture of her car and that’s when I saw her passenger, who is a foreigner, recording my actions.

“If I am a road bully, I could have used a weapon to threaten her but I didn’t.”

Meanwhile, Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said police have initiated an investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief.

“The police find both parties are at fault and both had provocation elements during the incident.

“Statements from both men have been recorded and we will refer the case to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.”
