U Mobile to provide connectivity to Atilze
> Telco is the 3G and 4G LTE partner for latter’s Connected Car solutions
PUTRAJAYA: U Mobile Sdn Bhd has inked a collaborative agreement with G3 Global Bhd’s subsidiary Atilze Digital Sdn Bhd, which could potentially see the former serving as a mobile connectivity provider to the latter’s connected car solutions.
The partnership entails U Mobile providing 3G and 4G LTE connectivity to Atilze’s real-time solution known as Atilze Connected Car devices that are equipped with various sensors and data-driven applications.
The system, which optimises vehicle operation, maintenance and security among others, enables real-time diagnostics, predictive maintenance, next generation fleet monitoring and management, driving pattern analysis, in-car WiFi, in-car infotainment, in-car e-commerce and Usage Based Insurance.
Speaking to reporters at the signing ceremony yesterday, U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said besides serving as a connectivity partner, the telco is also looking to make the solution available as part of its mobile plans for enterprise customers.
“We share in the government’s plans to improve road safety and reduce road accidents. This is why we have designed and developed connected car solutions that we believe are relevant to meet, and even surpass, the needs of Malaysian drivers, vehicles and roads,” Atilze CEO Gerard Lim said.
The company, which is involved in the provision of Internet of Things services, rolled out the on board connected car device, known as OBDII catered for passenger vehicles in May, used in a German car.
It is in talks with the distributor of a Japanese car brand to adapt the OBDII system into their car, with U Mobile serving as the connectivity partner.
It is also looking to roll out the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for commercial vehicles, which provides continuous monitoring of the vehicle and its surroundings, and alerts drivers when dangerous conditions are detected.
Besides that, Atilze is also engaging with car distributors in Indonesia to adapt the systems as part of their car.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who witnessed the signing, said the ministry together with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will be studying the feasibility of having the system in place in commercial vehicles such as buses in a bid to reduce road mishaps.
He encouraged commercial vehicles to adapt systems such as ADAS in their vehicles. ADAS has been made mandatory in countries like Singapore, Korea and Japan.
Liow said the number of fatalities recorded for the Hari Raya season had reduced by 14% compared with last year despite the number of accidents recording an increase.
