> Second Berjaya TeenStar Challenge another resounding success

KUALA LUMPUR: The second Berjaya TeenStar Challenge 2017 was yet another resounding success with some amazingly talented teenagers coming to the fore.

Open to Malaysians from Form 1 to Form 6, the competitio­n comprised a series of auditions held over four months, culminatin­g in the grand finals at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre on Saturday where finalists vied for the top three spots in four categories: solo singing, modern dancing, cultural dancing, and band.

In the band category, AfterGlow from SM Sri KDU, consisting of Nik Mohamed Shaqeel Nik Arif Reza, Justin Tong Jee Yeung, Ng Faye, Ang Yuet Wen and Jaseindran Ravindran, brought the house down with a solid performanc­e to bag the top prize of RM5,000 in cash and in kind.

In the cultural dancing event, Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah bagged RM5,000 in cash and kind with a dazzling show.

Another standout performanc­e came in the modern dancing finals where team Xcalate from Sri Emas Internatio­nal School emerged champions, ahead of secondplac­ed Caliber from SM Sri KDU and third-placed Groove and Move from Sekolah Sri Kuala Lumpur.

The solo singing finals saw 16 singers from various schools sing their hearts out. Ell Havila Emilcah Jinorin from SMK Bandar Sri Damansara picked up the top prize of RM2,000 for her stunning version of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston’s duet When you believe.

“We are proud to have discovered so many talented teenagers around the country for the second year. The immense dedication shown by the participan­ts was amazing,” Berjaya Corporatio­n Berhad senior general manager of group corporate communicat­ions Judy Tan said.

Other awards went to Aloysius Ho Juin Rong from Xcalate (best dancer), K.K dance crew from Sekolah Seni Malaysia (best creativity) and Darren Ong Guan Wen from Sekolah Sri Kuala Lumpur (best showmanshi­p).
