Services back to normal after derailment

PETALING JAYA: The services of all KTM Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) trains returned to normal at 6.20pm yesterday after they were disrupted due to the derailment a cargo train early in the day.

According to the KTMB Customer Service Response unit, the carriages were transporti­ng cement from Simpang Batu when the derailment happened.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) in a statement yesterday said the rail services were disrupted since yesterday morning after a cargo train derailed at Km386.8 between the Kuala Lumpur and Bank Negara stations at 4.30am.

It was reported that all Komuter trains experience­d a delay of between 20 to 30 minutes, whereas the ETS trains were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes.

ETS involving routes to Ipoh and Padang Besar were also delayed while the tracks were being restored.

“We apologise for the inconvenie­nce caused,” the statement said.

The train services involving the Port Klang and Batu Caves routes were the first to resume, using only one track.

The statement said customers can contact the KTMB Customer Service Centre at 03-22671200 or visit KTMB’s website at www.ktmb.com.my.

“Any relevant updates will be communicat­ed from time to time,” the spokesman said.

Following the incident, the KTM Komuter services involving the Port Klang and Batu Caves routes were delayed by about 30 minutes from the original schedule.
