> Twenty3 showcases its Ready To Wear 2017 collection at KL Fashion Week

RENOWNED local fashion brand Twenty3 recently showcased its Ready To Wear 2017 collection at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week.

It was the brand’s first year on the runway as Twenty3, where before, its sub-brands, Sher and Lin, took the spotlight.

“We wanted to present Twenty3 in its entirety this year, as opposed to focusing on the individual identities of our sub-brands. As we continue to grow into the international scene, we feel this is a good time to look back on our roots and our reason for doing what we do: We are, at our core, a movement of dreamers, empowering other dreamers everywhere,” said Twenty3 Creative Director, SoBu.

Led by SoBu, with Twenty3’s inhouse designers Cheng, Vivien and Yen Yon on the team, the collection, titled Beyond The Lines, is a testament to their passions and their many years of experience in honing their art, having worked alongside internationally recognised designers among the likes of Rick Owens, Khoon Hooi, Mary Katrantzou and Leonardo Salinas. The runway saw 12 looks, crafted from a palette of black and indigo tones, contrasted with clean white, soft pink and azure, reminiscent of a dreamland. The collection also featured elements in opposition, as it embraced tough denim, structured shirting and strict lines, walking alongside relaxed hoodies, floral embroideries and voluminous bell sleeves. Within these vivid disparities, Twenty3 explores the themes of androgyny, rebellion, freedom from expectations and learning to love, others, but more importantly, oneself.

“We believe that one finds empowerment when one is free. From their doubts, their fears and the expectations weighing on them. We encourage our audience to find it within them to chase their dreams, breaking out from dark to light, structured to flowing,” said SoBu.

This idea of empowerment is further emphasised in the way the pieces are worn, with shirts and jackets styled off-theshoulder in rebellion, alluding to the anti-fashion movement.

Staying through to their vision in designing for the woman on-the-go, each look is also wearable from day to night, having had much consideration go into comfort, style and practicality.
