Couple set costume-change record

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysian performers Avery Chin and Sylvia Lim may have broken their own record for the most costume changes in a minute during a performance on Saturday night.

The couple managed to complete costume changes 25 times during their performance at the Penang Street Food Festival at Lebuh Pantai.

The huge crowd were mesmerised as Lim changed from costume to costume behind a screen used by Chin for the act.

There were loud cheers and applause as the final change, from a blue frilly ensemble to a white dress, was completed with a burst of confetti.

Chin said their latest attempt was one more costume compared to their last performance in Tokyo on Aug 27 where they made 24 costume changes in a minute.

He said the performance there earned them an entry into the Guinness World Records while their feat in Penang would have to be verified first.

“We have a good chance to break our own record set in Tokyo. We followed all the requirements, rules and regulations set by Guinness,” he said after the performance, adding an application has been made and a decision is expected soon.

Lim, 40, said they were nervous prior to their performance.

“This is our best performance so far where we are able to change 25 costumes in one minute after performing for 10 years,” she said.

The couple have performed in many countries, including the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, China and on luxury cruise ships.
