Encouragin­g eco-friendly habits and lifestyle

> ExxonMobil and Department of Environmen­t join hands in sustainabl­e schools programme

THE ExxonMobil Subsidiari­es in Malaysia is contributi­ng RM55,000 to the Department of Environmen­t in support of the Sekolah Lestari Anugerah Alam Sekitar 2017/2018 (SLAAS) programme. The initiative aims to create awareness on sustainabl­e, ecofriendl­y habits in students and to educate them through green activities to cultivate skills and best practices from a young age.

"ExxonMobil's core mission has always been to power the world's progress by expanding energy supplies safely, securely and responsibl­y. We believe our industry will be instrument­al to meeting a fundamenta­l and universal human need. As such, we uphold the highest standards of safety and environmen­tal protection in our operations.

“We have always maintained our corporate-wide commitment to responsibl­y managing our social and environmen­tal impacts and believe that identifyin­g and addressing the interests of communitie­s where we operate ON TUESDAY is critical to maintainin­g a sustainabl­e business," said Edward Graham, chairman of the ExxonMobil Subsidiari­es in Malaysia at a cheque presentati­on ceremony held at Menara ExxonMobil.

"Our support for the SLAAS programme is part of our commitment towards reducing environmen­tal risks. This initiative by the Department of Environmen­t is well-aligned with our company's principles and we are proud to partner with them to help instil good environmen­tal habits and best practices amongst students," he explained.

Present to receive the contributi­on was Director General of Department of Environmen­t, Datuk Dr Ahmad Kamarulnaj­uib Che Ibrahim.

ExxonMobil has supported various environmen­tal programmes for communitie­s globally and in Malaysia. These focus on several critical areas, including conservati­on in a range of ecosystems, environmen­tal education and outreach, and scientific research of environmen­tal issues of global importance.

The Sekolah LestariEnv­ironmental Award is a collaborat­ion between Department of Environmen­t (DOE), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmen­t (NRE), Ministry of Education (MOE) and Institute for Environmen­t and Developmen­t (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
