Temporary trading spot for market fire victims
PETALING JAYA: The 327 traders affected by a fire which destroyed some 80% of the Seremban wet market last Saturday have been allocated a temporary trading spot at a parking lot.
“I inspected their shops at 1pm (and) I’m sad to see them destroyed,” MCA Youth chief Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon said, adding that each affected stall operator will receive RM1,000 as an emergency fund.
“The Seremban Municipal Council has provided temporary electrical generators in the wet market’s vicinity as Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Fire and Rescue Department ordered the main electricity supply to be shut down for forensic investigation to be conducted.
A special meeting was also held with MPS president Datuk Abd Halim Abd. Latif on the next course of action after taking note of the traders’ grievances, he added.
The top floor of the twostorey Seremban wet market in the town centre caught fire after a downpour on Saturday evening.
The cause of the fire has yet to be established.
Meanwhile, in JOHOR BARU, four surgery rooms at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) had to be closed after a machine sealer in the packing room caught fire on Saturday afternoon.
The packing room is located at the back of the operation hall.
The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted at about 3.30pm. The blaze was put out by 4pm.
“All the surgery rooms have resumed operations,” State Health, Environment, Education and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said yesterday. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
