The unwitting accomplices

-

PLAYING the wingman and wing-woman to the much harried Jay are Max (played by Wong) and Zoey (Dunareanu).

Max is the party guy who came to Singapore from the US after he graduated, and just never left. Despite being married to Zoey, Max just can’t seem to grow up.

He takes it upon himself to get Jay back on his feet, even though his advice may not necessarily be the best.

Zoey is Max’s wife who is a freelance interior designer. She loves Max and puts up with his daily shenanigans.

Wong explains that Max as his Jay’s only friend, and therefore his best friend.

“Jay is affected by sending out all these crazy emails which has pretty much offended everyone in his life. My character is not offended by all this and for some reasons, my wife allows me to be weird and crazy about this. That is how [Dunareanu ‘s character] and I become part of Jay’s life.

“Sometimes when you have no one else to turn to, you turn to the people who were not your first choice.”

Dunareanu said her character is there for the ride. “As the series progresses I think she becomes more compassionate toward’s Jay’s cause. She starts feeling for him, especially since her husband is involved.”

Both signed on to Sent mainly because of the HBO brand.

Dunareanu said that they were also given room to develop their characters. It helped that director Tay is an actor himself, and understood their needs.

“If you don’t know how the characters come to a decision, it will look forced and unrealistic,” said Dunareanu. Tay would let them approach a scene the way they wanted, and then tweak it to fit his vision.
