KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V was saddened and had expressed his condolence to the Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Hajah Haminah on the demise of the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja Istana Negara Datuk Wan Ahmad Dahlan Ab Aziz said in a statement last night that the King also conveyed his condolence­s to the children of the late Tuanku, members of the royal family and all the people of Kedah.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak also expressed his and the government’s condolence­s to the royal family.

“Innalillah. I am saddened by the news of the Kedah Sultan’s passing.

“Almarhum Tuanku was a highlyresp­ected King during his two reigns as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as well as the Kedah state ruler.

“He was also very friendly, hospitable, virtuous and loved by the people,” he posted in a series of tweets yesterday.

“May his soul be blessed and be placed among the faithful. Al-Fatihah.”

Other leaders also conveyed condolence­s.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

“Condolence­s to the family of Almarhum Tuanku and the rakyat of Kedah. May he be blessed by Allah. Al-Fatihah.”

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai

“Extending my condolence­s to Sultanah Kedah and the whole royal family over the demise of Sultan Kedah. Almarhum Tuanku will always be remembered by the people as the people’s King.”

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali

“The Selangor state government wishes to extend its condolence­s over the demise of DYMM Sultan Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah. Al-Fatihah.”
