Man wield­ing parang robs bank of RM46,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Armed with only a parang, a lone rob­ber pulled off a heist at a bank in Jalan Imbi be­fore coolly es­cap­ing with RM46,000 yes­ter­day.

Dang Wangi po­lice chief ACP Mohd Sukri Ka­man said the rob­ber, who donned a face mask, had ap­proached a teller at the UOB Bank counter be­fore whip­ping out a ma­chete from his shoul­der bag at about 12.15pm.

He said the rob­ber handed over the bag to the terrified staff and or­dered it to be filled with cash.

He then snatched the bag and non­cha­lantly stepped out of the bank as stunned staff and cus­tomers watched help­lessly.

Mohd Sukri said the sus­pect fled on foot and is be­lieved to have bolted with an ac­com­plice who was wait­ing on a mo­tor­cy­cle.

He said the rob­ber did not harm any­one and ef­forts to track him down are on­go­ing.

It is yet to be known if se­cu­rity guards were present dur­ing the heist or how the rob­ber made his escape from the area.

How­ever, po­lice are gath­er­ing footage of the bank’s closed-cir­cuit se­cu­rity cam­eras and those in the vicin­ity to track down the sus­pect.

Po­lice foren­sics unit per­son­nel scour­ing the crime scene for clues fol­low­ing the heist yes­ter­day.
