On Sunday, a blaze gutted a luxury Christchurch hilltop Airbnb house which was rented by a group of Malaysian tourists who were unsuccessful in putting out the fire which began about 8.30pm.
It was reported the fire destroyed the three-storey wooden house on Clifton Terrace in the seaside suburb of Sumner.
Six people were taken to the hospital, with four having sustained moderate injuries and the rest, minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Radio New Zealand, quoting local fire authorities, said the fire was likely accidental.
It said fire investigator Mark Thomas had checked the badly damaged property and interviewed the victims.
He said it appeared the guests made an effort to extinguish the fire themselves, he said.
