Woman arrested for disrespecting Johor Sultan

-

PETALING JAYA: A 28-year-old woman, believed to be mentally unsound, was arrested for direspecting Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, during a visit the Ruler made to Ayer Hitam on Monday as part of the Kembara Mahkota Johor annual touring expedition of the state’s 10 districts by the royal family.

The incident occurred opposite a fast-food restaurant in Jalan Medan Putra at about 9.30am when the Sultan was meeting the public.

The woman apparently walked up to Sultan Ibrahim and hugged him before kissing him on the right cheek.

Policemen and the Sultan’s bodyguards rushed over and attempted to pull the woman away but she resisted.

Sources said a struggle ensued during her arrest, causing the woman to suffer a small cut on her lips.

Police found no dangerous items on the suspect, who had no criminal records but learnt that she had been suffering from depression for over 10 years.

It is learnt she became depressed after failing to score 19As in her SPM examinations in 2007. She obtained 18As and 1B.

Investigators also learnt she was treated for her condition at a private hospital. The woman had also confided in her family that she intended to marry a member of the royal family. – by Charles Ramendran
