SSM urges online businesses to obtain digital certification
KUALA LUMPUR: The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has urged online businesses to obtain its “SSM BizTrust” digital certification to enhance consumer confidence in their products.
Its business development and marketing director Farid Ahmad said since its launch on July 21, 2017, 81 companies from over 57,000 online businesses have obtained the certification.
“The SSM BizTrust certification can help an online business entity boost consumer confidence in its products,” he told reporters after the launch of the ECommerce Seller Conference yesterday.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan officiated at the conference.
Farid said the companies and businesses which have received the certification will be identified with the “SSM BizTrust” logo displayed on the web site.
“Consumers will have more confidence when they buy a product from a registered website as they can lodge a complaint with the commission if they encounter any problem with the online transaction, and SSM can track the company concerned,” he said.
Farid urged businesses to take advantage of the free registration, which is on until Sept 30, to obtain the certification.
“After that, a registration fee will be imposed, the amount of which will be based on the category of business,” he said.
Farid said SSM has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lazada Malaysia whereby businesses selling products via the Lazada portal must register with SSM to ensure consumer protection.
“If there is any problem with the transaction, we can trace the seller as we have their particulars,” he said.
Farid said the commission is also working closely with several e-market place providers towards enhancing consumer protection. – Bernama
