success and respect of his/her peers. Displaying such powerful symbols at specific locations in the workplace can help to create the right ambience and mood. The symbols could be anything considered potent based on the five elements, such as metal coins, metal artifacts, or crystal ware. In particular, plants have also been found to have some special characteristics as they not only represent the Wood element but also signify growth, longevity and upward movement.

Hence, placing plants in the home or office can be a great enhancer of good feng shui, besides improving the décor of the place.

In feng shui, plants mainly represent good luck and fortune. However, other characteristics of love, purity, longevity, and wealth all have a strong relationship with the Wood element, and plants can also help boost these areas in a person’s life.

The lucky bamboo is one of the most well-known good luck plants in feng shui. The Chinese words for ‘prayer’ and ‘bamboo’ sound alike, hence, there is a belief that bamboo can also increase the power of prayer.

The foyer and the front doors of a house or office can benefit from live plant or floral arrangements of magnolias and peonies when placed at an elevated level.

But, remember to remove the live flowers when they start wilting, and replace them with fresh ones!

Chrysanthemums and plum blossoms symbolise living an easy life, orchids represent perfection, while the jade plant is the ‘tree of wealth’ as well as a good luck money plant.

Hence, any of these live plants can be adapted to enhance the feng shui of your space.

As food symbolises prosperity and abundance, you should also display bowls overflowing with fruits, or display pictures or paintings of rich harvests – which are powerful feng shui symbols of abundance – in the dining area or the wealth sector of the home, to attract the right qi to these areas.
