Two men in viral caning video charged
KLANG: Two men were charged at the magistrate’s court yesterday over the battering of a man with a rattan stick on Sept 6, when footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The duo were slapped with two charges each, with both claiming trial.
Ching Chee Siong, 39, was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
He had used a rattan stick to hit 52-yearold odd-job labourer, Khor Meng Heong.
Ching faces up to 10 years’ jail, a fine, whipping or any two of the punishments, if convicted.
He was also charged with criminal trespass into Khor’s home, punishable under Section 447 of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a jail term of up to six months, a maximum fine of RM3,000 or both.
Magistrate Roslizi Sulaiman set bail at RM5,500 and fixed October for the case to be mentioned.
In another court, See Kean Soon, 38, who recorded the entire beating incident, was charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code with abetting Ching.
If found guilty, he can be sentenced under Section 324 of the code with a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping or any two of the punishments upon conviction.
See was also charged with criminal trespass into Khor’s home, punishable under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to six months, a maximum fine of RM3,000 or both.
Magistrate Rozianti Mohamed Hanaphi set bail at RM6,000 and fixed Oct 13 for case mention.
