Police bust ‘rave’ party at hotel

> 225 held, 62 tested positive for drug abuse

IPOH: Sixty-two people, including 13 women and a polytechni­c student, tested positive for drugs after they were arrested by police during a “rave” at the 7th floor of a hotel in Medan Ipoh on Saturday night.

They were among 225 individual­s comprising 123 men and 43 women, aged between 18 and 35, who were detained during the operation conducted by the state narcotics department.

Perak police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the team raided the hotel following a public tip-off.

“One of the suspects is believed to have brought Ecstasy pills and 33.5g of ganja while other pills believed to be drugs were found strewn on the floor,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Initial investigat­ions revealed the organisers had promoted the party through WhatsApp, WeChat and Instagram.

“It is learnt that the organisers had held similar parties, including in Ipoh, Penang and Kuala Lumpur, in apartments or bungalows.

“They charged RM58 for early-bird booking or RM78 for direct entry to the party,” Hasnan added.

On Friday night, police raided a rock and roll party which was held in a bungalow at a golf course in Kempas.

Johor Baru Utara police chief, ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said 74 party-goers were checked of whom 22, aged between 16 and 33, tested positive for drugs.

Police also seized 12 Eramin 5 and eight Ecstasy pills.

The rock and roll party was dubbed “Proqtext zeus”. The entry fee for male guests was RM30 each while women were charged RM20 per head.
