Plan for PJ beer fest
> Petaling Jaya City Council receives application for four-day event in shopping mall
PETALING JAYA: The city council here has received an application to organise a four-day beer festival at a local shopping mall next month.
However, Petaling Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the application was incomplete as it was not supported by letters from authorities like the Customs Department and police, as the event involves consumption of alcoholic drinks.
“So far, only one company, Creative In Action International Sdn Bhd, has submitted an application. They did so two weeks ago seeking approval for the event from Oct 5 to 8. We have yet to process the application. Once they have the (supporting documents), we can start processing it,” Mohd Azizi told a press conference after the council’s full-board meeting yesterday.
He said the organisers are aware of the need for supporting letters as they are not first time applicants.
“The council imposes the same requirement every year.”
On whether it would be harder for the organisers to get the letter from police considering the recent publicity over the Better Beer Festival, Mohd Azizi said he is in no position to comment at the moment as it was dependent on the police.
Last Thursday, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the Better Beer Festival was not given approval because the police had “security concerns” involving militants who were planning to sabotage the event.
“The people’s safety is our utmost concern,” responded the IGP after Kuala Lumpur City Hall said it had rejected an application to hold the event.
