RM22 million syabu bust
MARANG: Police made its biggest drug bust this year, seizing over 300kg of syabu worth about RM22 million in a series of raids in three states.
The raids in Terengganu, Selangor and Penang were jointly conducted by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group.
Bukit Aman NCID director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said six suspects aged between 25 and 53 were arrested.
“In the first raid on Sept 25, we arrested two suspects in Bukit Payung and seized 288.5kg of syabu stored in a lorry container, followed by the arrest of another suspect in Klang.
“Three other suspects were also detained in Penang and we seized 20.5kg of syabu,” Salleh told a press conference at the Terengganu police headquarters.
He added police also seized more than RM260,000 worth of assets, including four vehicles belonging to the syndicate.
All suspects have been remanded for seven days.
Mohmad added the drugs were packed inside Chinese tea packets and smuggled through Kelantan and Terengganu from Thailand.
“The syndicate had been smuggling syabu from Thailand via Golok before bringing it to Kelantan and Terengganu. From there, the drugs were transported to Kuala Lumpur and distributed to other states. Drug syndicates are changing their modus operandi by using Kelantan as an entry point to avoid detection. – by Aiezat Fadzell
