Pipe repairs in Sungai Buloh completed

-

PETALING JAYA: Repair works on the burst pipe in Sungai Buloh, which resulted in major water disruption in Kuala Lumpur and Gombak, has been completed, said the National Water Services Commission (Span).

Span chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ridhuan Ismail said the repairs were finished at 2.30am on Monday and supply resumed a few hours later.

He added Pengurusan Air Selangor (AiS) had activated the emergency action plan immediately after the burst pipe was detected.

“Due to the size of the pipe, the drying process took a long time before repairs could take place.

“Span had directed AiS to speed up the repairs … to reduce consumers’ inconvenience.

“The weather factor had also affected the progress of the repairs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) announced that water supply in the affected areas would resume in stages, based on the water level at its service pool.

“For premises situated on high ground and at the end of the distribution system, it will take some time before the service can be fully restored,” it said in a statement.

Consumers can log on to www. syabas.com.my, or by going through the smartphone application “mySyabas”, to get updates on the water supply recovery status.

The damage on the 1,850mm pipe on Saturday had caused more than 350 areas in Kuala Lumpur and Gombak to experience temporary water cuts.
