KUALA LUMPUR: More than 5,000 high-tech and high-quality Taiwanese products by 164 companies at 240 booths will be on display at the Taiwan Expo from Nov 9 to Nov 11.

This is the first time the Taiwan Expo is making its way here as the final stop of its multi-cities tour.

Themed “BEST for MY Life! Beauty, E-Commerce, Smart, Talent”, it is scheduled to be held at KL Convention and Exhibition Centre from 10am to 6pm.

“The expo will have 11 themed pavilions with eight main industries that focus on five pillars – beauty and halal; e-commerce and business; smart and technology; talent and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions; as well as culture and taste.

“Additionally, a series of business matching, seminars, cultural performances and other exciting activities will also be available during the three-day expo to showcase Taiwan industries and culture to Malaysians,” Taiwan External Trade Development Council deputy executive director Philip Huang said in his speech during the soft launch yesterday.

He added that in view of Malaysia’s position as a global leader in halal certification, the expo will also be showcasing a large selection of halal beauty products and specialty food to highlight the potential of Taiwan’s halal industry.

Huang said to deepen bilateral relations between Taiwan and Malaysia, as well as to strengthen the exchange and cultivation of industrial talents, there will be a Contact Taiwan Global Talent Recruitment Zone available to facilitate talent recruitment.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in Malaysia representative James Chang Chi-ping said the expo will further strengthen trade ties between the two nations.

“Malaysia has been an important target market, as both our nations recorded bilateral trade up to US$14.1 billion (RM60 billion) in 2016 alone, making Malaysia the eighth largest trading partner to Taiwan,” Chang said.

“According to statistics, bilateral trade increased 24.3% to US$11.2 billion from January to August this year, higher than the bilateral trade between Taiwan and Asean with 16.8% growth rate, compared to the same period in 2016,” he added.

He believes the products to be featured in the expo will be a good testament to the level of quality and innovation to come out of Taiwan.

Asked on expected visitors for the expo, Huang estimated a draw of 30,000 to the free event.

Among those present at the launch were SME Association of Malaysia president Datuk Michael Kang Hua Keong, Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers president Datuk Vincent Lim, Malaysian Gift and Premium Association president Alan Ong and Malaysia Green Association president Tan Sri Mustapha Mansur.
