KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia X, the long haul arm of Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier, yesterday announced Jeju, South Korea as its latest destination, with a promotional all-in fare from RM199 one-way.

The exclusive direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to the idyllic island will run four times a week, with the inaugural flight to take place on Dec 12.

The special promotion of all-in fares from RM199 one-way on standard seats and RM899 one-way on its Premium Flatbed will run from Oct 10 to 15 for travel between Dec 12 and March 25, 2018. The fare is inclusive of taxes and fees. AirAsia X Berhad chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said nonpromotional fares will subsequently cost between RM400 and RM600, depending on the season, date and time of flight.

Passengers will be able to take flights from Kuala Lumpur to Jeju on four days each week, namely Monday (5.30am departure), Tuesday (6.40am), Wednesday (5.30am) and Saturday (6.40am).

Flights from Jeju will be on Monday and Wednesday (1.35pm local time departure), and Tuesday and Saturday (2.40pm).

Booking is available online at airasia.com.

During a question-and-answer session, Benyamin said Jeju provides an enormous potential market for AirAsia, with over 500,000 people travelling between Malaysia and South Korea last year alone.

Jeju is now the third South Korean destination with a direct flight by AirAsia after Seoul and Busan, with the airline expecting an 80% load factor for the flights to Jeju. Malaysians also make up the second largest arrivals into the island after Chinese.
