MPO highlights local music talent
THE MALAYSIAN Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues to feature talented local talents on the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) stage this October.
This time, the spotlight shines on pianist Foo Mei Yi ( right), who will move you with her musical brilliance, by performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, composed in 1800 and filled with great emotional depth and drama.
This concert series, which is entitled Great Thirds, will be staged on Oct 14 and 15 at 3pm. Both concerts will be led by Mark Wigglesworth.
Foo’s virtuoso has captivated audiences around the world at venues such as the Royal Festival, Wigmore Hall, Athens Megaron and Teatro Real Madrid.
She is the winner of the BBC Music Magazine Award’s Best Newcomer in 2013 and has transformed from ‘a pianist to watch’ (BBC Radio 3) to ‘a rising star’ ( International Piano Magazine).
She has collaborated with Benjamin Zander, Janos Fürst and Matthias Bamert, and with renowned orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, English and London Chamber Orchestras, and Helsinki and Seoul Philharmonics.
Her latest CD, recorded with the Britten Sinfonia, has been met with critical acclaim.
She was also awarded the medal of Setiawan Tuanku Muhriz for her contribution towards arts and music.
