Cops’ integrity, attitude to be monitored: IGP

- BY ASHWIN KUMAR

KUALA LUMPUR: The police force never practised a “blue wall of silence” when faced with negative elements within the force.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the federal police aim to monitor not only the attitude but also the integrity of policemen.

“The setting up of Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department shows we are taking punitive action against graft, cover ups, and abuse of power cases within the force.

“The department closely monitors the level of compliance among personnel to ensure it is at an optimum level,” he said in his speech during the “Breakfast Integrity Talk” at the police training centre yesterday.

Mohamad Fuzi said it is important for policemen to adhere to Section 3(3) of the Police Act, which is to preserve the country’s sovereignty and people’s security.

On the proposed anti-kleptocracy rally at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, Mohamad Fuzi said Pakatan Harapan will not be allowed to go ahead with it.

He said as of yesterday, police had received four reports from residents in the vicinity against the rally.

“The residents are worried the rally will cause traffic congestion. We are not allowing it for reasons of safety and due to possible overcrowding.

“I was informed that about 20,000 rally-goers are expected to gather at the area and as far as we know, Padang Timur can only cater to about 10,000 people.”

Mohamad Fuzi suggested the organisers hold the rally at Stadium Kelana Jaya but the organisers have not responded to this.

Pakatan Harapan deputy president Mohamad Sabu said the organisers were served the letter of objection by the Petaling Jaya police on Tuesday, citing traffic issues as its main concern.

He added the short notice provided by the police made it impossible for the venue to be shifted to some other place.

“We will write back to the police to inform them of our cooperation with the authorities to manage traffic during the rally.”

Among those who attended the “Breakfast Integrity Talk” were Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, former Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin and Integrity Institute of Malaysia president and CEO Datuk Dr Anis Yusal Yusoff.
