Police to record organisers’ statement
> No permission was given for ‘kleptocracy’ rally to go on, says IGP
SEPANG: Police will be calling on the organisers of the Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi (Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy) rally, which was held last Saturday at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, to have their statements recorded.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Seri Muhammad Fuzi Harun said they were being called in as police did not give them a permit for the rally to go on.
“We did not allow the rally to go on, so definitely we will call them in for their statements,” he said at the launching of the KLIA police headquarters.
He said if action needed to be taken, it would be carried out in accordance with the law.
Muhammad Fuzi had earlier said Padang Timur could only accommodate 10,000 people, far less than the 20,000 targeted by organisers.
He said this would cause a spillover of the crowd into nearby roads leading to the highway, adding that it would also pose problems to surrounding residents.
He added, on the other hand, holding the rally at the Kelana Jaya stadium would allow better crowd control.
Rally organisers had announced that 25,000 people attended the event, which kicked off at about 4pm with speeches from Pakatan Harapan NGO leaders.
The rally ended about 11pm. No untoward incidents were recorded.
