No decision yet on new MH370 search
KUALA LUMPUR: A decision on whether to resume the search for MH370 will only be made after discussions with China and Australia.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the meeting with both countries will only be held after Malaysia receives the reports from a few seabed exploration firms that had offered to help in the search.
“We (Putrajaya) are waiting for the details and once we’ve finalised (them), we need to have a tripartite meeting. We won’t be deciding anything now (whether to embark on a new search or not) because we need to discuss with the companies and it will take some time as there will be many detailed discussions.
“Then, later on we will present (the findings) to the tripartite countries (Malaysia, China and Australia) and we will have to decide on this very important decision,” Liow told reporters when met at the unveiling of Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) stations concept design in Malaysia held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) here. An international news portal previously reported that Malaysia may resume the search for the missing flight next week after an American seabedexploration firm Ocean Infinity had made a “no find, no fee” offer.
The report added Ocean Infinity has also offered to deploy six underwater vehicles at depths of up to 6,000m.
